About our principal

Cathy

Dear Moniteau County R-I Students and Families,

I am honored to introduce myself as the new High School Principal for the 2026–2027 school year. Joining Pinto Nation is a privilege, and I look forward to building strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the community.

My educational philosophy is centered on ensuring students and staff feel connected, challenged, supported, and valued. I believe relationships are the foundation of a successful school, and I am committed to creating an environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to reach their full potential. I also believe in maintaining high expectations while providing the support needed for students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of educational settings and collaborate with schools, businesses, and community organizations. These experiences have reinforced my belief that schools are strongest when educators, families, and the community work together to prepare students for life beyond high school—whether that path leads to college, career training, military service, or the workforce.

I am excited to support the wide range of opportunities available to students, including academics, career and technical education, athletics, fine arts, FFA, student organizations, and service activities. These experiences help students discover their strengths, build leadership skills, and develop pride in their school and community.

My connection to this region is especially meaningful, having begun my career in California, Missouri. I deeply value the strong sense of community, work ethic, and support that define rural schools, and I am grateful for the opportunity to return and serve in a district that shares those values.

As we begin this school year, I look forward to listening, learning, and celebrating our students’ success. I am committed to being visible, approachable, and engaged as we continue building on Moniteau County R-I’s tradition of excellence.

Go Pintos!

Cathy J VerBerkmoes, Ed.S.
