Dear Moniteau County R-I Students and Families,

I am honored and excited to introduce myself as your new High School Principal for the 2026–2027

school year. Joining the Moniteau County R-I School District and becoming part of Pinto Nation is a

privilege, and I look forward to building relationships with students, families, staff, and community

members in the months ahead.

My educational philosophy is simple: students and staff thrive when they feel connected, challenged,

supported, and valued. I believe strong relationships are the foundation of a successful school, and I am

committed to creating an environment where every student and staff member feels a sense of belonging

and is empowered to reach their full potential. I also believe in maintaining high expectations while

providing the support necessary for students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of educational settings, including serving

students in California, Missouri, and partnering with schools, businesses, and community organizations

across the state. These experiences have strengthened my belief that schools are most successful when

educators, families, and community members work together toward a common goal: preparing students

for bright futures. Whether a student's path leads to college, career training, military service, or the

workforce, our responsibility is to ensure they leave high school equipped with the knowledge, skills, and

confidence to succeed.

I am also excited to support the many opportunities that make the high school experience meaningful and

memorable. From academics and career-focused programs to athletics, fine arts, FFA, agricultural

education, student organizations, and community service, these experiences help students discover their

strengths, build leadership skills, and develop a sense of pride in their school and community. I believe

every student should have opportunities to be involved, connected, and engaged, and I look forward to

celebrating the achievements of our students both inside and outside the classroom.

My connection to this region is especially meaningful. Early in my career, I taught in California, Missouri,

and developed a deep appreciation for the values that make rural communities special—strong

relationships, community pride, hard work, and a commitment to supporting one another. Returning to

serve in a district that shares those values feels like coming home.

As we begin this school year together, I look forward to listening, learning, and celebrating the many

accomplishments of our students. I am committed to being visible, approachable, and engaged in the life

of our school and community. Together, we will continue to build on Moniteau County R-I's tradition of

excellence while creating new opportunities for students to learn, lead, and grow.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve our students, our families, and our community. I am excited to

begin this journey with you and look forward to a fantastic school year.

Go Pintos!

Sincerely,

Cathy J VerBerkmoes, Ed.S.
